Little Kids Rock Brings Free Music Program to more than 1200 Shreveport Children in the Midst of Music Education Cutbacks
National nonprofit donates 280 instruments and curriculum to Caddo Parish Schools with support from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Hot Topic and the Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation
Shreveport, La., Sept. 22, 2009 — Little Kids Rock (LKR), a national nonprofit music organization that provides free instruments and instruction to underfunded public schools, today announced its expansion into 13 new schools in Shreveport, bringing music education to over 1200 students. On September 24-25 at the Southwood High School Learning Center in Shreveport, Little Kids Rock will instruct participating teachers in its innovative curriculum and donate 280 brand-new Fender® guitars, along with software and materials, to participating schools. Teachers who complete the workshop will begin leading classes this school year, reaching over 1200 kids in and around Shreveport.
The Little Kids Rock program, which is one of the largest free instrumental music programs in the United States, launched its program in Shreveport with nine teachers and 115 guitars in April 2006. The program expanded during the 2007-08 school year to include 17 more teachers and an additional 371 guitars.
This Little Kids Rock guitar workshop is presented in the Caddo Parish Schools through the generous support from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Hot Topic, and the Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation.
